I have a disk that is divided in many partition, one of them is the bootable system partition, others are data partitions. Now I want to move the bootable system partition on a different disk, making it bootable and preserving the signature to avoid windows reactivation. I want to avoid Windows reactivation because I don’t know if the code is still “reactivable”. The code belongs to a partner subscription that is expired, and the newer versions do not include anymore the Windows 7 ultimate.

Thus, I was thinking to clone my old disk to the new, but I cannot do it because the new disk will have to contain only one partition of the original one, and it will be smaller. As far as I know the clone mode of DD is available only in two options. I could manually: – copy the system volume on the new disk – make the new disk bootable – copy the NT signature from the original disk. In any case it makes sense to contact Microsoft support and to clarify licensing questions.
