Submit feedback. It is and has been since the very first version of Word for DOS the default behaviour for the first document that you create to show Document 1 in the title bar and the next one Document 2 and do on. Why would they hide it in such a silly place in the Mac version?

Open to a new blank document by default in Word for Mac – Microsoft Community.
